MEETING NIGHT and TIME
ALDA Suncoast is transitioning meetings. We will still meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM with online meetings in Zoom as we have been doing during the Coronavirus pandemic but this will change to quartlerly. We will have an in person event during the months that we do not have a Zoom meeting and we may have some social events in the same months as the Zoom meetings. Safety of in person events is still important to ALDA as we have some members who are high risk. For our events we encourage mask wearing in close quarters for those who are high risk or unvaccinated. ALDA is not responsible for any illness you may get attending one of our events so please evaluate each one you plan to attend for safety at your level of acceptable risk.
Our meetings are captioned so everyone can read what is being said and we also have sign language interpreters.
March 2022 meeting is replaced with a social, outside dining at Whiskey Joe's Bar and Grill, 7835 Bayview St, Port Richey, FL 34668. We will start gathering there at 5:00 p.m. for happy hour.
The new board is shaking things up, hoping to cover a larger geographical area to encompass the large influx of members from Pasco County so some events will be further north and some will remain more southerly in Pinellas County. Your new board wants your input, what do you want to know about that we could get a speaker for? It can be about hearing loss or have nothing to do with hearing loss. This is your group and the board wants your input. Please participate.
The new directors you elected to the board last month voted on which would become officers. Thank you everyone who participated, those who ran, those who voted, and those who will serve us these next two years. You'll find the new officers listed on the left margin of this page in place of the old officers.
One of our Suncoast Chapter members this year won the National ALDA Cheryl Heppner Advocacy Award. We wish to Congratulate Debbe Hagner for her work advocating for people with hearing loss not only with ALDA but also with several other organizations and boards, as well as being a peer mentor.
We include Debbe's letter of thanks to the ALDA board here as well.
Items we mentioned at our meeting:
2022 Convention
The national ALDA convention for 2022 will be held on October 19-23, 2022 in San Diego, California.
Besides our normal convention events, there will be lots of fun extracurricular activities to do in Sunny San Diego. A few of the more popular attractions include the San Diego Zoo, Whale Watching Tours, The Gaslamp Quarter and of course BEACHES!
Information is on the National Website for sign up. The Early Bird Special gives you a discount on registration and the earliest sign up time right now has an even better St. Patrick's Day Special giving you the biggest discount so the sooner you sign up the better the deal you will receive.
The call for papers has gone out. If you'd like to present to our Convention or know someone you'd like to see teach a workshop, please have them submit a proposal.
